Estee Lauder Companies, world's second largest manufacturing company, owns some of the most recognizable brands. Estee Lauder itself, Creme da La Mer, Tom Ford, M.A.C and 30 more brands. They have manufacturing plants across North America, Europe and Aisa. We were brought in to help them with a major initiative, how to drive the numbers of rejects down? One reject on a batch can cost them upwards of half a million dollars and multi folds lost revenue.

Pain Point: with an ocean of data how can they focus on the right metrics so they can avoid same issues from happening again.

Project execution

After learning their current process, our data professionals identified a path for them to drive projects based on our action driven analytics. We created value for Estee Lauder by executing on the following deliverables:

  1. Ingested and cleaned raw SAP data then applied business logic which will not only be useful for us but other teams in Estee Lauder as well
  2. Using SQL, connected multiple data points with business logic already applied to bring out the most benefit from data
  3. Set up an ETL job where multiple SAP tables are joined and data is refreshed every day
  4. Using Tableau, built a dashboard which is helping - senior management see globally how are manufacturing sites performing. For individual site managers, they're able to see most common problems and using Pareto method identifying top 20% of the problems

Using the template dashboard it allows multiple users to see KPIs, trends and action all in one page. After the project was implemented and users were trained we had started to measure the impact of our tool
